PENSACOLA, Fla - The Argos traveled across town to a local Pensacola Christian College in their yearly matchup between the two teams. Coach Elliott expressed how much both teams respect each other as well as the game. Eight different players on the UWF squad found the back of the net last night for an 11-0 win of the evening.
Scoring started in the 12th minute when senior Austin Marshick scored a header from a corner kick by Fynn Geigle that found Finn Werner, and eventually Marshick headed in the back of the net. Just a few short moments later, a head injury to Marshick would remove him from the game, but his spirits remained high as he saw his teammates score more goals.
Jack Patching and Josiah Fontenot both earned a multiple goal night for the Argos. Patching opened up his scoring in the 19th minute, and later, after some brilliant and quick passing from him, Fynn Geigle, and Keegan Lynch, Patching found the back of the net again. Fontenot began his multiple scoring night in the 66th minute after teammate Marcus Pereira took the ball down to the sideline to find Fontenot ready to finish in the box. Pereira found Fontenot again in the 79th minute with a slotted ball down the middle for a quick and effective finish. Fontenot and Pereira were an unstoppable duo as Pereira found Fontenot one final time to cap off the hat-trick in the evening. Marcus Pereira also earned himself a goal on the evening as well, tallying a total of 5 points for himself at PCC.
Goal scoring came from all positions of the Argos. Defenders Keegan Lynch and Lorenzo Weber added to the scoring for the Argos. Lynch also tallied two assists for the Argos. Midfielders and forwards Kainan Dos Santos, Finn Werner, and Keegan Ancelin tallied into scoring for the Argos as well.
Goalkeeper A.J. Evans earned the start for the evening as well as the shut out for the night. Evans and his back line did a fine job of keeping the Eagles away from the back of the net.
The Argos will use this momentum of the win as they head into further GSC play. The Argos are back at home as they host Shorter and Lee next Friday, September 29th at 5:00pm, and Sunday, October 1st at 12:30pm. For more information, visit goargos.com/sports/men-soccer
