PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team fell to Montevallo, 70-67, at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
UWF nearly erased a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but
Brooke Kane's 3-point attempt in the final seconds was just short.
Kane had 11 points and was one of three players to finish with double-figure scoring for UWF (8-5, 5-4 Gulf South).
Tyashia Bostick led the team with 12 points and
Jaden Langford finished with 11 as well.
The Argos held a 45-34 rebounding margin and used 14 offensive boards to account for 24 second-chance points. UWF shot 58 percent but made a season-low four 3-pointers.
UWF came out red hot on defense, holding the Falcons scoreless for the first four minutes while building a 9-0 lead. UM battled back to close to within 18-16 after the opening quarter.
Again, the Argos extended their lead to as much as six points late in the second before the Falcons hit their only two 3-pointers in half over the final 1:40 to trim the margin to 35-34 going into the locker room.
Leisha Steger gave the Falcons their first lead, 43-41, with a 3-pointer midway through the third, before the visitors led 48-45 entering the final 10 minutes.
Bostick drained a 3-point from the corner to pull UWF within 70-67 with 33.2 left. The Falcons did not score on their possession, setting up UWF's final play in front of its own bench.
UM (9-4, 7-3) shot 41 percent and got 20 points off the bench from Savannah Cook. She had all of her scoring during a 14-4 run that extended the Falcon lead to 66-53 with 4:30 to play.
UWF returns to action on Monday evening when it plays host to Auburn Montgomery (7-7, 5-5) at 5:30 p.m.
