Game-Winner In Final Seconds Lifts UWF to Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala.Emma Beltz lifted the University of West Florida women's soccer team to a 3-2 win on Friday night over West Alabama scoring the game-winning goal with only 13 seconds left in the game.

The senior fought for the ball in the 18-yard box after Jillian Thompson crossed the ball into the box from the right side of the field. Beltz found space while moving to her right and cut a shot back to the left side of the net to win the match for UWF. The goal was Beltz's second of the day and seventh of the season.

The Argos had to fight from behind in the game, something the team hasn't had to do much this season. UWF was down 2-1 at the half. The Tigers scored first in the 13th minute followed by Beltz's first goal in the 26th minute. UWA added their second goal of the game to go up 2-1 in the 36th minute.

UWF regrouped at the break and controlled the second half. The offense outshot UWA 11-1 in the second half leading to two goals. Ahnalie Layman kicked off the half with a goal in the 52nd minute.
Layman's shot from 22-yards out straight away beat the keeper to her right.

Beltz then closed the game out with her last second heroics.

Maciah Lipsey made three saves in net during the win.

UWF (11-1-3, 9-0-2 GSC) has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Gulf South Conference and will host a post season game in Pensacola on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
