PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos are moving on to the next round of the Gulf South Conference women's soccer championships after taking down Spring Hill on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
It wasn't the best of starts for UWF as Spring Hill was the first to get on the board with a goal just 40 seconds into the game. Poppy Binding was credited with the goal following a free kick that was deflected off an Argo defender and looped high into the net.
That was the only goal the Badgers would score though. UWF responded with two first half goals to claim a 2-1 lead that would hold for 53 minutes of gametime to send the Argos to the GSC Semifinal.
Mya Swinton scored the first goal for UWF in the 25th minute and Bela Labovic had the game-winner in the 38th minute. Both goals were scored following long balls played into the 18-yard box that came to the feet of the Argos offensive players.
Similar to the regular season contest back on Sept. 30 which saw UWF win 3-2, the Argos dominated the possession and kept the ball in Spring Hill's defensive end of the field. West Florida had 18 shots with 13 on target. UWF also created 10 corner kick opportunities. Spring Hill had five total shots and one corner kick.
UWF (13-1-3) will now play No. 4 seed Lee on Friday at 3 p.m. in the Semifinal match. The game will take place at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex Championship Field in Huntsville, Ala.
