HUNTSVILLE, Ala - The University of West Florida women's soccer team clinched the 2024 GSC Tournament in a 2-0 victory in Huntsville this afternoon. With their 2-0 victory, the Argos automatically earned a bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.Â
How It Happened
The Argos opened the scoring in the first half as
Mya Swinton drew a foul just outside the penalty box, setting up the team for a chance to score. First Team All GSC recipient
Ahnalie Layman stood behind the ball looking for a goal. At the whistle, Layman perfectly placed the ball in the top right corner as she hooked it in with her left foot in the 40th minute.Â
With the momentum from the first half, the Argos went searching for a second goal. In the first four minutes of the second half, Swinton found Katylyn Larsen on the flank. Larsen took on the Falcons defenders and found
Emma Beltz in the box. Beltz danced around the defenders and placed the ball in the top right corner to put the Argos up 2-0.
With strong defending and high pressure, the Argos withheld their 2-0 lead and clinched their championship title.
Maciah Lipsey,
Emma Beltz,
Julieta Limardo, and
Mya Swinton earned a spot on the All Tournament team.
Mya Swinton was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.Â
