BOCA RATON, Fla - The Argos opened the 2024 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament with a win over Flagler this evening. The Argos secured their spot in the round of 32 as they defeated the Trojans 3-1 in regulation. UWF will play Lynn this Sunday at the Bobby Sports Complex at Lynn University.Â
How it Happened
Scoring opened in the 30th minute of play as the Argos pressed high against the Saints.
Kendrick Hernandez danced around the defenders and found
Marcus Pereira in the middle of the field just outside the 18-yard box. Pereira cut around the Flagler defense, and with a getaway touch and some space, Pereira shot it low and hard to the bottom left corner to put the Argos up 1-0.Â
Six minutes later, the Argos press earned a throw in the attacking third. With his long and dangerous throw,
Keegan Lynch sent the ball into the box. After some deflection, the Flagler defense tried to clear it on a header, but Jaime Guillen was there. Guillen struck his left foot high in bicycle kick form and buried it in the top left corner to extend the Argo lead to two.Â
After a strong first half, the Argos were searching for more. Continuing their high press, the Argos won the ball in the middle of the field.
Caue Novaes sent a long, lofted ball through the air to find Jaime Guillen on the run to the end line. Calm and composed, Guillen sent a low-driven ball into the box to kind
Keegan Ancelin. Ancelin finished the perfectly placed ball to put the Argos up 3-0.Â
The Flagler Saints found the back of the net in the 74th minute, but it was not enough to defeat the Argos. UWF out-shot Flagler 14-8, and earned three corner kicks. Jaime Guillen and
Kendrick Hernandez lead the team with three shots each.Â
