LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The UWF men's basketball had the exact start they needed in Saturday's Gulf South Conference game against the University of West Alabama, but the team was unable to hold on in the second half, falling 64-56 to UWA.
The Argos jumped out to a 10-0 start with
Kyle McElroy scoring four points in that stretch and
Ryan Payne draining back-to-back 3-pointers. It was a low scoring first half, but UWF was able to hold the lead for the entire half until a UWA 3-pointer with five seconds left tied the game at 30-30.
In the second half the lead changed hands a couple of times and was tied on three occasions, but the Tigers took the lead for good at 42-40 with 12:15 remaining in the game.
Shay Davis led the scoring for the Argos with 13 points.
Ja'Ron Briggs Jr. had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
Next up for UWF is a Monday evening game on the road at Alabama Huntsville. It will be the team's second GSC contest of the season. Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m. CT.
