UWF Drops Tight Battle With AUM, 64-61

The Argonauts shot 43 percent

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team suffered a hard-luck defeat to Auburn Montgomery, 64-61, at the UWF Field House on Monday.
 
The Argonauts led 59-56 with just under three minutes in the game. AUM tied it on a Tian Anderson 3-pointer with 1:45 left and followed with a pair of Danielle Luckey free throws. Claire Sutherland-Case tied it with a layup as the clock went under a minute.
 
Allasha Dudley gave the Warhawks the eventual game-winner with a 35-footer that beat the shot clock. Sutherland-Case had a shot to tie it but the ball was off the mark and time ran out during the loose-ball scramble.
 
UWF (13-10, 10-9 Gulf South) shot 43 percent but committed 14 turnovers that led to 15 AUM points.
 
Sutherland-Case and Tyashia Bostick led the Argos with 15 points. Brooke Kane and Veronika Roberts had 12 each. Kane and Sutherland-Case collected double-doubles with 11 rebounds.
 
Auburn Montgomery (16-7, 14-5) won its ninth-consecutive game as Dudley led the way with 20 points on 7-of-24 shooting. Luckey had a double-double with 17 and 12.
 
The Warhawks shot just 32 percent but grabbed 18 offensive rebounds, scoring 14 points on those extra possessions.
 
The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes before AUM grabbed a 13-5 lead with a 9-0 run. The Argos battled back to tie it at 20 early in the second quarter. UWF then had an 8-0 run to secure a 30-26 lead before taking a 30-29 edge into the locker room.
 
The Argonauts will wrap up their 4-game homestand on Saturday against Valdosta State. The game with the Lady Blazers will start at 2 p.m.
