UWF Falls To No. 3 Valdosta State, 56-49

The Argos are now in eighth place in the Gulf South Conference

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team suffered a tough shooting game and fell to No. 3/8 Valdosta State, 56-49, at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
 
UWF (13-11, 10-10 Gulf South) made four of its first seven 3-pointers and then went cold from long range, missing its next 15. The Argonauts shot 34 percent in the contest.
 
Tyashia Bostick led UWF with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Claire Sutherland-Case had 16 and five blocks.
 
VSU (22-2, 19-1) won its 19th-consecutive game as it shot 36 percent and scored 15 points off 18 Argo turnovers.
 
Kalifa Ford led all players with 21 points and 10 rebounds. She hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that halted UWF's momentum as they had closed to within six and seven at various points in the period.
 
UWF scored the first seven points and stretched the lead to 20-11 late in the first quarter. The Lady Blazers pulled within four by scoring the final five of the frame.
 
VSU extended its scoring stretch to a 9-0 run to go ahead 22-20 with 6:45 left in the half.
 
The Lady Blazers led by 12 midway through the fourth quarter for their largest lead of the game.
 
UWF concluded a 4-game home stand and will now travel to Auburn Montgomery (17-8, 15-6) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
