#7 UWF Splits Twinbill to #25 Rollins, Games End in Thrilling One-Run Differences

WINTER PARK, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team opened the series with a 7-6 loss off a walk-off single but completed the doubleheader in a 4-3 victory on the road for non-conference contests.
 
The Argos advance to 6-2 on the season and will play the series finale over the Tars Saturday, Feb. 17 at noon CT.
 
GAME 1
UWF came back from a 5-2 deficit in the eighth frame. They scored three runs on a hit to bring the score to five-all. Trent Jeffcoat, Darrien McDowell and Jackson Grabsky got an RBI each.
 
The Argos took a one-run lead in a dramatic fashion in the top of the ninth. Parker Tubb led off the inning with a single. He made his way to third base off a couple of fly outs from his teammates. Dom Presto stepped up to bat with two outs and a final chance to put the Argos on top. Presto hit an infield single and dove into first base to beat the ball.
 
McDowell put himself on the line to maintain the lead in the bottom of the ninth. The Tars saw themselves in scoring position with a man on third base. Tars batter bunted to first but McDowell was one step ahead. He dove to the ball and quickly handed it off to Brett Rowell to get the runner out at home.
 
UWF sat at two outs with a 6-5 lead but could not hold on. Rollins singled up the middle to tie the game at 6-6. The hit was followed with a walk-off single through the right side to take the win 7-6.
 
UWF got on the board first in the first inning. McDowell sat on first after reaching on a single. He stole second and reached home on the same play due to a Tars error.
 
Rollins tied the game at one-all in the second inning and took the lead in the fifth after scoring three runs.
 
UWF scored five straight runs in three innings to take a 6-5 lead heading into the ninth frame.
 
McDowell average .750 offensively going 3-for-4 at the plate. Grabsky followed with two hits an led with two RBI.
 
The Argos were strong offensively and tallied six runs on seven while only leaving three runners on base.
 
GAME 2
Game two continued in a thrilling one-run difference fashion.
 
Kade Manderscheid got the win and increased to 2-0 on the season. Manderscheid threw seven strikeouts in six innings pitched. Chase Wilkerson made his second appearance of the night and got the save.
 
UWF saw themselves down 2-0 in the first frame.
 
McDowell, Grabsky and Hotz come together in the third inning to take the lead that maintained throughout the following six innings. Marcus O'Malley, Trent Jeffcoat and McDowell each hit an outfield single back-to-back-to-back. McDowell's hit sent O'Malley home for an RBI. Grabsky's play allowed Jeffcoat to score due to a Tars error to tie the game at 2-2. Hotz stepped up to the plate and hit the perfect shot to the right field that sent McDowell and Grabsky home for a two RBI double. The hit allowed the Argos to extend their lead to 4-2.
 
Rollins brought a run in in the eighth frame to bring the score to a final, 4-3.
 
Jeffcoat, McDowell and Parker Tubb led with two hits apiece.
 
UWF had a 10-7 edge on hits.
 
Argos and Tars will battle to win the series at Alfond Stadium tomorrow (Feb. 17) at noon CT/1:00 p.m.
