PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team had three players in double figures and took care of business with a 60-47 win over Alabama Huntsville at the UWF Field House on Thursday. The win secured a spot in next week's Gulf South Conference Championship.
Brooke Kane led the way with 18 points and seven rebounds as she pushed her career scoring total to 991 points.
Delaney Trushel had open looks all game and drained five 3-pointers on her way to 15 points, while
Claire Sutherland-Case finished with 14 points, nine boards and four blocked shots.
UWF (15-12, 12-11 Gulf South) turned up the defensive intensity as it held UAH to 31 percent shooting and out-rebounded the visitors 42-to-34.
The Argos also held a 10-0 edge in fast break points and made 10 3-pointers, marking the seventh time to hit double figures this season.
The teams struggled to put the ball in the basket in the first half as UWF held a 15-8 edge. The Argos ripped off an 11-0 run that was keyed by three 3-pointers from Trushel and Sutherland-Case, to extend the lead to 31-15 late in the first half.
The Chargers pulled to within six late in the third before a Trushel trey put the Argos ahead 36-27. The lead never got closer the rest of the game
UAH (9-17, 8-15) was led by Bella White's 11 points and 11 rebounds.
UWF will host West Alabama on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the final home game of the season. The GSC tourney will begin Tuesday on the road, with the Argos' opponent determined after the games that day.
