DESTIN, Fla. - UWF sophomore
Millie Thompson shot an even-par 71 to open play at the Emerald Coast Collegiate at the Baytowne Golf Club on Sunday.
Thompson made two bogeys on the front nine before playing the back nine 2-under to be one of just five players in the 96-player field to shoot par or better on the 5,881-yard layout. The score was a career-low in her two seasons at UWF. She had previously shot a 72 on two occasions, including once this past fall.
Thompson was joined by
Kenzie Heba,
Holland Davidson and
Samantha Schultz as Argos in the 70s. Heba posted a 5-over-par 76 to put herself in a tie for 22nd place. Davidson and Schultz are competing as individuals and registered rounds of 75 and 78, respectively. Schultz and Heba both made 13 pars to lead all UWF players.
The other three team scorers -
Kate Kenthack,
Alexandra Seppanen and
Alia Scotka - shot 81, 81 and 83. The remaining UWF player,Â
Isabella Yu Lee, shot an 82.
UWF is tied for sixth place after posting a 309 team score. Flagler paced the 17-team field with a 290.Â
UWF will begin Monday's second round at 8 a.m. off No. 1, playing with Mississippi college and Arkansas Tech.
