Donor Spotlight: Kenneth Smalewich

Why do you give to UWF Athletics?

I started to give to athletics when there were rumors of starting a football team. I wanted to be a part of bringing football to UWF. The first confirmation I saw was when I was on the main campus for an oral exam at COB, after the exam stopped by the bookstore. There I saw a UWF T-shirt in the window with a generic football, West Florida Football on the front, and "Still Undefeated" on the back. Yes, I did buy the T-shirt.

Why do you continue to give annually?

UWF has had a lasting and meaningful impact and a significant hand in accomplishing some life goals.

What would you say is the best thing about donating to UWF athletics?

Meeting student-athletes and their parents, knowing they appreciate the support.

What makes you passionate about UWF Athletics?

Our teams have a history of doing well every year. Many of our teams go deep in their playoffs. Since I graduated in 2007 and as a student, we have had several National Championships and several Individual National Champions.

Anything else you'd like to add? For instance, a proud moment as an Argo fan or an experience you really enjoyed.

When a football player's parents told me "I know you're an alumni, [SIC] but no one supports us like you do." Meaning the trips, I make to away games. While there are many parents and fans at home games, there are not very many at most road games. The players' parents appreciate that I attend so many road games not having a relative on the team.
