CLEVELAND, Miss. --- #14 Argo baseball split Saturday's twinbill on the road over Delta State to remain in the one spot of the Gulf South Conference standings with an 11-3 conference record.

The Argos are 18-9 overall.

UWF dropped the series opener 6-1 but bounced back for a game two, 4-1 victory.

UWF got on the board first in the opening frame of game one. McDowell grabbed the first hit with a double and scored an unearned run off a Delta State (17-15, 9-7 GSC) error.

The Statesmen answered with three runs in the bottom half to take the lead.

Delta State went on to score three additional runs to extend the lead, 6-1. The Statesmen finished with an unearned run and two sacrifice fly's in the final four innings.

The Argos were held to two hits throughout the game.
Mark Townsend recorded the second hit in the fourth inning.

UWF was outhit 11-2 by the Statesmen.

In game two, the Argos were scoreless until the sixth inning. Trailing 1-0, UWF put up four runs on four hits in the sixth frame.

Trent Jeffcoat led off the inning with a double and scored an earned run due to a Statesmen error.
Preston Moore extended the lead by a run with an RBI double. Townsend got his second hit of the day, first of the game, that extended the lead to 3-1.
Jackson Grabsky capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring in the insurance run.

Now at a 4-1 lead, the Argos went three down in the final inning to take the win.

Kade Manderscheid threw a complete game and stays undefeated at 6-0 on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits.

The Argos will fight for the series win tomorrow, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Harvey Stadium.
