UWF Softball Placed at No. 7 in Second Week of NCAA Regional Rankings

Two more weekends remain until the NCAA DII Softball Postseason Selections.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF Softball (33-13, 20-7) placed no. 7 in the second week of regional rankings, the NCAA Division II announced Wednesday. 
 
The Argos' 2-1 series road win over no. 15 Auburn-Montgomery propelled them into the top eight spots, placing them in contention to advance to the NCAA postseason with only a couple weeks left. UWF holds a 33-12 record over in-region opponents, the second-highest win total in the south region. 
 
Eight south region teams will be invited to the NCAA Softball regional round, with three automatic bids going to the conference champions of the south region. UWF appeared on the initial top-10 teams in contention for the regional which was only released in alphabetical order last week.
 
Tampa of the Sunshine State Conference took the top spot, followed by Mississippi College, AUM, Saint Leo, Nova Southeastern, West Alabama, West Florida, and Rollins in order. Just outside the top eight were Valdosta State and Barry ranked nine and ten respectively. 
 
UWF has more chances to secure their spot in the regionals with one final GSC series this weekend and the GSC conference tournament next week in Oxford, AL.
