PENSACOLA, Fla. – The gates of the UWF Softball Complex will be open for the final weekend of the regular season as UWF Softball (33-13, 20-7) hosts the Lee Flames (19-23, 13-14) in an important series for both teams.

UWF has won 19 of its last 20 games and is coming off a massive series win over no. 15 Auburn-Montgomery on the road. The weekend series will have implications for the GSC tournament seeding, regular season championship, and NCAA regional hopes of the Argos.

Madelyn Vasquez and Montana Young were two of the key factors in another all-around impressive performance from the UWF batting lineup and bullpen. Their play garnered themselves another appearance on the NFCA Selected Top Performance List, the second time the tandem has appeared together on the list this season.

Young helped the Argos tie the series up in game one of the doubleheader against the Warhawks, limiting them to two earned runs with four strikeouts in a complete game. Vasquez tallied four runs and went 2-2 with a home run and two RBI in the Argos' 15-6 game three win to take the series over AUM. UWF hit six extra base hits including home runs from Vasquez, Emma Brice, and Erin Moon on their way to the run rule victory.

UWF is 17-9 against the Lee Flames dating back to their admission into the Gulf South Conference in 2014. The programs did not meet in 2023, and their last series was a 2-1 UWF win on the road in Cleveland, Tenn. UWF swept the prior two series before 2022, and is 10-3 against the Flames at home in the series history.

It will be a full weekend at the Fork, as Saturday is Bark at the Park in the East Sports Complex and Sunday is Senior Day as well as Military Appreciation Day.

GSC Standings / Regional Rankings:

The Argos came in at no. 7 in the second week of regional rankings released earlier Wednesday afternoon. Tampa took the top spot in the region, with Mississippi College in second. Other GSC teams on the list include AUM and West Alabama, with Valdosta State just outside the top eight spots at nine. All three south region conference champions earn an automatic bid into the NCAA DII regionals. UWF seeks to make it's 16th appearance in the NCAA postseason in program history.

In the GSC standings, UWF is still in a three-way tie for second with Auburn-Montgomery and Alabama-Huntsville at 20-7. Mississippi College sits one game ahead of the Argos with a 21-6 record. They will need wins against Lee and losses by the Chargers, Choctaws, and Warhawks to secure a regular season championship and top seed at the GSC Tournament in Oxford, Ala. next weekend.

Senior Day for the Argonauts Sunday:

Five seniors will be recognized for West Florida during Senior Day on Sunday. Chelsea Dumas, Jessica Ford, Madelyn Vasquez, Madilynne Webb, and Montana Young will all be escorted by their families and will receive individual recognition for their accomplished careers with the Argonauts.

Lee will also have several of their senior players briefly recognized during the ceremony.
