BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference announced the 2024 All-GSC Team for women's tennis Friday evening. Aline Midori Da Silva, Guadalupe Martinez and Carlota Verdu, a trio of sophomores who have primarily been at Nos. 1-3 in singles, were recognized as they prepare to lead No. 4-seed UWF in the GSC Championship this weekend. 
 
Midori Da Silva was the only one to make the First Team, one year after being named to the Second Team and winning GSC Freshman of the Year. The native of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, owns a 16-6 overall mark and a 9-2 GSC record at No. 2 in singles play. She also holds 12-9 overall and 7-3 in-conference marks throughout doubles with Martinez and Verdu as partners. 
 
Martinez placed on the all-conference team for the first time in her career, receiving Second Team honors after also winning two GSC Player of the Week awards for her play earlier this year. Originally from Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, has gone 16-5 overall and 8-2 in conference play at the three and four positions of singles. Additionally, she is 13-7 overall and 7-2 in GSC play with doubles partners Da Silva and Giuliana Sacco on courts two and three. 
 
Verdu also received her second All-GSC award after making First Team as a freshman last season. Hailing from Barcelona, Spain, she has occupied the top spot in the singles lineup for the entirety of this season, posting a 9-13 overall mark but a 7-4 mark in GSC play. She is also 13-8 overall and 7-4 in the conference slate throughout doubles while alternating between Da Silva, Luiza Daud and Manuela Dejean.
 
These three, aided by their teammates, open their stay in the conference tournament tomorrow at 2:30 pm in the quarterfinals against 5-seed Mississippi College.
