#25 Argos Can’t Get Past Bulldogs in Series Opener

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team (22-13, 13-6) fell 9-7 in a home conference matchup to Union Friday night.
 
The game opened with five total runs in the first inning. Union (13-19, 7-12 GSC) hit three back-to-back-to-back singles to quickly grab three runs. UWF shortened the gap in the bottom half to bring the score to 3-2.
 
Each team continued with runs in the second inning to stay at a one run-difference. The Bulldogs hit a two RBI double and was answered by a two-run homer from Darrien McDowell to trail 5-4. McDowell led the team with three hits
 
In the fifth inning, Jadon Fryman led off the inning with a single followed by Cade Easterbrook who was walked. Fryman and Easterbrook tallied an RBI each and combined for three hits in the game. Dean Hotz brought them home with a big time fifth inning two RBI double that put the Argos ahead, 6-4.
 
Union regained the lead after scoring three runs in the sixth inning, two of which were unearned.
 
Now at an 8-6 score in favor of the Bulldogs, the Argos loaded the bases in the seventh inning. Hotz grabbed an RBI after being hit by a pitch to sit at a one-run deficit. The Bulldogs managed to get out of the inning without any additional runs being brought in.
 
Union finished with an insurance solo home run to extend the team to 9-7.

Each team recorded double digit hits with Union having a 14-13 edge. 
 
Chase Wilkerson ended on the mound for the Argos. In 3.2 innings pitched, he allowed one earned run on two hits and recorded four strikeouts.
 
The Argos will be back at Jim Spooner Field tomorrow (Apr. 6), for a 1:00 p.m. double header.
