Argos Advance to GSC Championship Day After Two-Game Win

OXFORD, Ala. --- The University of West Florida baseball team grabbed two GSC Tournament wins on Monday to advance to the championship game. The Argos are the lone undefeated team of the tournament.
 
They will take on 3-seed Delta State in Tuesday's championship game at 11:00 a.m. As the only undefeated team in the tournament, UWF has two chances to win once for the title. DSU would need to win the 11 a.m. game to force a winner-take-all final at 2 p.m.
 
After facing a postponement on Sunday, the Argos faced obstacles and took on two tournament games, Monday May 6. UWF opened with a morning game against 4-seed Valdosta State. The team's did not meet in 2024 and their last meeting came in the 2023 GSC Championship title game - a 10-8 UWF win in 10 innings.
 
Cade Easterbrook and Jackson Grabsky led the game with three hits and a pair of RBI each.
 
After the Blazers put up two runs in the third frame, UWF went on a seven-score run in three innings. Grabsky grabbed his first RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fourth frame. UWF followed with five runs in four consecutive at bats in the sixth inning to take the lead and more. With two runners on base for UWF, Fryman hit an RBI double to begin the scoring. Easterbrook followed with a two RBI single that made it's way to the outfield. An RBI double by Grabsky and and RBI single from Townsend capped the scoring that also forced a pitching change for Valdosta State.
 
The Argos continued with a run in the seventh frame to score in three straight innings. Brett Rowell hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 7-2.
 
The Blazers shorten the gap in the seventh with a pair of run to finish the score at 7-4.
 
Dalton Neuschwander improved to 6-4 on the mound after a 5.1 inning performance. He allowed two runs on four hits while putting up six strikeouts. All six strikeouts came in the first three innings. Chase Wilkerson got the save and totals three on the season. In 2.2 innings pitched, he allowed just one hit.
 
UWF continued to push through in the afternoon contest over 5-seed Montevallo. Fryman led with three hits and three RBI in a 9-1 victory against the Falcons.
 
Off first pitches, Fryman put up a pair of solo home runs in his opening two at bats. In between the homers, Preston Moore hit an RBI double in the second frame. He brought Grabsky home who led off the inning with a double himself.
 
Now at a 3-0 score, the Falcons grabbed their first run of the game in the bottom half of the third to bring the score to 3-1.
 
UWF pulled away in the eighth inning after scoring five runs on four hits. Fryman led off the inning with another double and was brought home by an RBI single from Grabsky. A couple Falcons errors brought in two unearned runs with an RBI being credited to Riley Parker. Dean Hotz capped the inning with an RBI single. Grabsky grabbed his third hit of the game that brought in UWF's ninth run.
 
Caidan Peeples got his first win on the mound. Grabbing a start for UWF, Peeples pitched the opening six innings. He held Montevallo to a miraculous three hits while recording four strikeouts.
