CALERA, Ala. – The University of West Florida women's golf team opened their fall season on Monday at the two-day Full Moon BBQ Invitational hosted by the University of Montevallo.
The Argos placed second overall as a team at the Timberline Golf Club with a combined stroke total of 599 (+31).
"I thought we did a very good job being consistent and laying a great foundation for the year," said head coach
Kristen Dorsey. "It's always nice to improve the second day and see some putts roll in."
After the first round UWF sat in third place behind the leader Montevallo (+8) and Union (+16). The Argos shot 17-over par as a team on day one but were able to improve on day two, shooting +14 to overtake Union for second place.
"Overall, we looked very mature out there over the course of the tournament," Dorsey said "I didn't see a lot of wasted shots. If something didn't go to plan, we didn't seem phased, we were ready for the next shot."
Leading the way for UWF was
Alia Scotka who finished just four over par. The senior placed fourth overall in the individual scoring. Scotka recorded a 74 (+3) on day one followed by a 72 (+1) in the final round.
"Alia played solid and smart from tee to green," mentioned Dorsey. "She finished with a birdie on her last hole for what I hope is just a glimpse of what's to come from her this season"
UWF will head to McCormick, S.C. next for the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational on Sept. 23 and 24.
