PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 23 University of West Florida women's soccer team opened Gulf South Conference play exactly how they wanted to on Friday night with a 3-1 win over No. 5 Mississippi College.
The Argonauts handed Mississippi College their first loss of the season with the help of two first half goals from graduate student
Julieta Limardo. The Miami, Fla. native found the back of the net early in the game off the assist from
Mya Swinton. Limardo then scored what would be the deciding goal midway through the first half off the feed from
Ahnalie Layman.
Mississippi College got on the board early in the second half when Jaylen Bodry scored in the 54th minute, but UWF responded just seven minutes later with a goal from
Emma Beltz to give the Argos a 3-1 advantage.
UWF played a strong defensive game, only allowing the Choctaws to get off five total shots and two on frame. In previous games this season, Mississippi had no fewer than 11 shots in a contest.
West Florida (3-1-1, 1-0 GSC) will host Delta State on Sunday at 3 p.m.
