Shay Davis and
Elijah Wyche scored career highs on Thursday evening, but it wasn't enough to lift the University of West Florida men's basketball team over Auburn University at Montgomery as the Warhawks won, 96-85.
Davis led the Argos offense on the road with 23 points and five assists. The senior's previous best scoring output was 22 points against Georgia Southwestern at the end of November.
Wyche went 9-of-12 from the field scoring 21 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
AUM controlled the entire second half of action to secure its eighth win of the season. The Warhawks gained the lead for good with 2:28 remaining in the first half after UWF had held the advantage for the majority of the first half. AUM pulled ahead to a 21-point lead with 12:30 in regulation. The Argos were able to cut the lead to as little as eight points, but with only a minute left in the game.
The Warhawks won the rebounding battle 42-29 with 12 offensive boards resulting in 11 second chance points.
For the next matchup, UWF (4-12, 3-7 GSC) will play on the road against Montevallo on Saturday at 6 p.m.
