MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of West Florida earned another conference win with their 70-67 victory over Montevallo on Saturday.
Haidyn Pitsch led the Argos with 23 points and behind her was
Bella Green with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
UWF fell behind early in the first quarter, unable to break Montevallo's lead and only closing it to one point at the most. The Argos trailed by four headed into the second quarter and were able to take the lead on a good three-pointer by
Carmen Jones with 7:13 left in the second quarter. A few more tie points and lead changes came in the second quarter, but West Florida was able to pull ahead by one point to end the first half up 33-32.
Close play continued with four more tie points in the third quarter. Montevallo was able to take the lead and hold it for a few minutes, but a jumper from
Rylie Stephens pushed the Argos ahead with 1:25 left. Green followed that up with a layup to end the third quarter up by four at 52-48.
Montevallo outshot West Florida in the fourth quarter, 19-18, but the Argos managed to fight them off to take the game 70-67.
UWF shot 45-percent from the field compared to Montevallo's 40-percent. The Argos added 13 second chance points off 14 offensive boards and 13 points from the Falcons turnovers.
The Falcons were led offensively by Isabel Grimes with 15 points.
UWF is back in action at home on January 23 for the Sneaker Head Night against West Alabama. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
