Argos Take Down Choctaws for Second Straight Win

CLINTON, Miss. – The UWF men's basketball team picked up its second straight on Saturday with a 74-69 road win over Mississippi College.

The Argos move to 4-9 overall on the season and 3-4 in the Gulf South Conference.

UWF held a comfortable double-digit lead in the first half, building a 16-point advantage midway through the half. The Choctaws were able to chip away at their deficit and close the gap to only two points before the end of the half. The teams carried a 41-39 score into the break.

The second half saw the lead change hands 10 different times. Mississippi took their first lead of the contest a minute and a half into the second half. Both teams traded buckets with neither team taking more than a three-point lead.

Despite giving up the big first half lead, West Florida was able to claim the lead for the final time with 2:47 remaining when Rodney Bryant Jr. hit a jumper to put the Argos up 70-68.

Junior forward, Elijah Wyche came up big for the Argos in the final 30 seconds to help UWF secure the win. Wyche pulled down a pair of rebounds and then went 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The junior has shot 72.5-percent from the charity stripe this season but connected on 8-of-9 from the line on Saturday night.

Wyche was one of five players who scored in double figures in the win. He dropped in 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist. Xavier Glenn led the team with 14 points.

The Argos will look to extend the winning streak on Thursday, Jan. 9 at home when the team hosts Christian Brothers at 7:30 p.m. in the UWF Fieldhouse.
