Green leads UWF to overtime victory over Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – Bella Green led the Argos in their 72-68 overtime win over Mississippi College on Saturday with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
 
This win puts UWF at 6-1 in Gulf South Conference play with a 10-3 overall record.
 
Haidyn Pitsch was second on the team with 18 points and tied Green in rebounds. Bella Stone went 3-for-4 from behind the arc to add nine points for the Argos.
 
The first quarter was close with a tie game ending it at 18-18, and the largest lead being held at only three points. West Florida outscored Mississippi College 16-10 in the second quarter. Delaney Trushel gave the Argos their largest lead of the half at eight points with a good three-pointer. The Choctaws sunk a jumper with 19 seconds left in the half to make it 34-28 headed into the locker room.
 
Mississippi College came out strong to start the second half, tying the game up at 34-34. The third quarter saw a few lead changes and close leads for both teams, but the Argos were able to hold theirs to finish the quarter 50-47. The final quarter proved to be an exciting one with lots of tight play and the Choctaws nailed a three-pointer with 17 seconds left to force overtime.
 
The Argos pushed a six-point lead in overtime and held strong with Pitsch ending it with two made free throws, taking the win 72-68.
 
West Florida outshot Mississippi College at 41-percent from the field compared to the Choctaws 39-percent. UWF was able to convert 22 points off turnovers from MC and 16 on second chances.
 
The Choctaws were led offensively by Tytiana Buckley with 16 points.
 
The Argos will return to action at home on January 9 against Christian Brothers. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
