LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The No. 16th University of West Florida volleyball team extended its winning streak and remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play with a 3-1 victory over West Alabama on Friday night at Pruitt Hall. The Argonauts dropped the opening set 25-22 but responded decisively to win the next three 25-19, 25-11, and 25-20 to improve to 14-3 overall and 7-0 in GSC action.
Junior outside hitter
Kumara Flanagain led the offensive effort with a match-high 19 kills on a .325 hitting percentage, while freshman
Ana Colon continued her impressive season with 15 kills, 17 digs and three service aces.
Reece Wright added 10 kills, and
Magdalena Vongkasemsiri was highly efficient with five on a .385 clip.
Setter
Gabi Moulton once again ran the offense smoothly, dishing out 48 assists to go along with 13 digs and two service aces. Defensively,
Maddie Mire anchored the back row with a match-high 25 digs, helping UWF hold the Tigers to just a .150 hitting percentage on the night. The Argos also tallied 10 service aces and 10 total blocks as a team.
After a tightly contested first set that was ultimately decided by the Tigers, West Florida dominated the second and third frames with efficient offense and strong serving. The Argos hit .400 in the third set and never trailed in the fourth, sealing the match with a balanced attack and disciplined defense.
UWF continues conference play on the road this weekend as they travel to Mississippi College. The Argos will face the Choctaws on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at GoArgos.com
