PENSACOLA, Fla. — In a tightly contested match, the University of West Florida Argonauts claimed a hard‑fought 1–0 victory over Union on Friday evening. From the opening whistle to the final moments, the contest looked like a classic defensive chess match but the Argos back line held firm, and an early strike proved decisive.
The only goal of the game came in the 5th minute, when Callum Edwards found the back of the net off an assist from Rafael Esteves.
After that early spark, the match was back and forth. But the Argos defense stayed strong and were disciplined in shape to take on Union's attacks. UWF's keeper Tomas Valles also came up big when called upon, making several crucial stops to maintain the clean sheet.
"It was a tough battle, every conference game is tough," coach Bill Elliott said. "We need to turn more of our shot opportunities into goals."
The Argos next game will be at home on Sunday October 19 against Christian brothers at 12:30 p.m.
