MEMPHIS, Tenn. – UWF men's cross country competed in the Gulf South Conference Championship Saturday morning, placing 8th out of 11 teams at the meet and placing a runner on the All-Conference teams in
Grant Chastain.
Chastain placed 20
th out of 100 GSC runners, finishing just a few seconds off a top 10 program time and being the top Argo at the meet on a 24:54.2 time.
"We had a plan to be a bit more aggressive for this one. It paid off for a few personal bests and seasons best times," head coach
Caleb Carmichael said. "Really proud of Grant for breaking 25 for the first time. Finishing 8th isn't what we wanted but we're trending in an upward trajectory heading into regionals. Excited to embrace the 10k there."
Carson King finished 38
th with a 25:32.2 time, improving his personal best by 11 seconds in the effort.
Nathan Deboutez showed out with an impressive race, setting a season-best time of 26:12.32 to place 51
st.
Xander McLaughlin finished shortly aafter at 56
th with a 26:17.32 final time.
Preston Cooper and
Jack Tyner finished 79
th and 81
st with a seven-second split between their times. Cooper finished with a time of 27:15.07. Tyner set a season-best time of 27:22.7 for himself.
Parker Hicks placed 86
th with a 27:54.1 time.
Parker Nunley finished 90
th with a 28:47.4 time.
