No. 6 Argos Claim GSC Regular Season Championship

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's soccer team claimed the 2025 Gulf South Conference Regular Season Championship after their 1-0 win over the University of Alabama Huntsville on Friday evening.

UWF dominated the match for all 90 minutes, keeping possession of the ball for the majority of the match. The Argos out-shot the Chargers 17-2 and kept the Chargers from having any shots on goal.

In the 56th minute, off a corner kick from Rece Grant, Jillian Thompson was able to find the back of the net and secure the win for the Argos. This marks Thompson's third goal of the season.

"I come out here and I try to win for our team and our fans, and that's what we did," Thompson said. "I'm very proud of us; we never give it up, even if we're down a goal or up by five, we never give up, and it showed today."

Thompson also made big plays on the defensive side of the ball and was able to win the ball back when the Chargers had possession.

Megan Gettys and Olof Thorvaldsdottir finished with three shots, and Thorvaldsdottir had two shots on goal.

The Argos (14-0-2) celebrate senior day and play their last regular-season game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against West Alabama.
