VALDOSTA, GA. – The University of West Florida women's basketball team opened the 2025–26 season with a strong 60-50 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday afternoon at The Complex in Valdosta, Georgia. The Argonauts are now 1-0 on the year with the victory.
West Florida controlled the game from start to finish, never trailing and holding the Sailfish to just 29 percent shooting from the field and 17 percent from beyond the arc. The Argos outscored PBA in two of the four quarters and led by as many as 18 in the fourth.
Amelia Bell paced the Argonauts with 17 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor while adding 12 rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
Ebba Zalamans proved strong with 8 boards, adding two assists and two points.
Finley Kennedy and
Jakeria Hawkins both added four points and two steals each for the Argos, while Hawkins collected four rebounds as well.
In the paint, West Florida held a decisive 36-24 scoring advantage, with
Madilyn Rendall providing five points and four rebounds and
Isabel Grimes adding 8 points and three rebounds. UWF also capitalized on Palm Beach Atlantic's 22 turnovers, converting them into 20 points.
