VALDOSTA, GA. – The University of West Florida women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a strong 72-60 win over Eckerd on Saturday afternoon at The Complex. UWF completed an undefeated weekend at the GSC/SSC South Region Crossover tournament.
The Argonauts used a dominant fourth quarter and a balanced scoring effort to pull away late, outscoring the Tritons 16-6 in the final frame. West Florida shot an efficient 56 percent from the field and 44 percent from three, while 10 different Argonauts entered the scoring column and two players hitting double figures.
Janai Jordan led the Argonauts in scoring, going for 17 points on 7-9 shooting with 2 three pointers to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
Avery O'Connor followed behind, logging 14 points, with 12 coming from deep. UWF's bench proved decisive, outscoring Eckerd 36-10.
After leading 39-35 at the half, the Argos traded buckets throughout a tight third quarter before taking control in the fourth. O'Connor's transition finish put UWF ahead 58-57 with 8:32 remaining, and the Argonauts never trailed again, closing the game on a 14-3 run. UWF held Eckerd to just two field goals in the final 10 minutes.
The Argonauts will return to Pensacola for the first home of the 2025 season on Tuesday, November 18, where they will face Tuskegee. Tip-off is set for 10:30 a.m. Live stats will be available on GoArgos.com.
