PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos advance to the Semifinal round of the GSC Tournament after a 2-0 win over UAH, Saturday afternoon.
The first half was a defensive battle, ending 0-0. Both teams found themselves in scoring positions but could not find the back of the net.
Starting the second half, the Argos took possession of the ball. The Argos were able to produce multiple corner kicks in a short span of time.
Hunter Wallace got the momentum started with a header off a corner kick from
Rece Grant. This is Wallace's seventh goal of the season, and Grant's third assist.
Alexis Castle was able to further the Argos' lead, finding the back of the net in the 79
th minute. This is Castle's sixth goal of the season.
The team kept the Chargers from scoring in the remaining time and secured their 16
th win.
JoHannah Peterson was a key player in the Argos defense and consistently cleared the ball when UAH had possession.
"Keeping our composure, as long as we focus on one game at a time, and just focus on our next opponent, keep our heads in the game," Wallace said when asked how the team looks to continue their time in the tournament. "Give it all that we have, cause I feel like that's the definition of West Florida, we don't let up."
UWF took a combined 27 shots, with 13 on frame.
Mya Swinton led with eight shots, and
Kaitlyn Herb followed with six.
The Argos will travel to Huntsville, Ala., and face the winner of West Alabama and Delta State match in the GSC Semifinals on Thursday.
