Women's Basketball Falls to UAH in GSC Opener

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The UWF women's basketball team fell to UAH in the Gulf South Conference opener, 70-53 on Thursday evening. 

The Argos set the tone early with defensive pressure, forcing multiple turnovers and generating momentum in transition. UWF tallied 12 steals in the game with Finley Kennedy leading the team with four steals. Six different players ended up with at least one steal for the Argos. 

Amelia Bell was the leading scorer for UWF dropping in 14 points and grabbing six rebounds. 

In the second half the momentum swung in UAH's favor. UAH guard Lilli Wilkens led the offensive output for the Chargers scoring 30 points. The Chargers built a double digit lead in the third quarter, but UWF was able to cut the lead to just six heading into the fourth quarter. 

UAH jumped out to a 17-4 run on offense in the last quarter of play allowing the visitors to build a 17 point lead with three minutes to go. 

In addition to Bell, Avery O'Connor was the other double digit scorer for the Argos with 10 points. 

UWF will look to bounce back this Saturday, December 6th, when they host West Alabama at 2 p.m. for the Sneakerhead game.
