PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's basketball team fell to Valdosta State 75-69 in an overtime showdown at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
The Argos (14-6, 10-4 GSC) started strong, outscoring the Lady Blazers 20-16 in the first quarter. However, Valdosta State (12-8, 7-7 GSC) clawed back with a dominant third quarter, scoring 24 points to take control of the game.
UWF was led by Haidyn Pitsch, who put up a season-high 27 points, including five three-pointers and tied her season-high seven rebounds. Delaney Trushel contributed 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Rylie Stephens added 11 points.
Valdosta State saw balanced scoring, with Erin Whalen notching a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Aryana Hicks adding 19 points and 5 assists.
Both teams battled through a defensive fourth quarter, with UWF outscoring VSU 16-7 to force overtime. However, the Lady Blazers capitalized in the extra period, outscoring the Argos 14-8 to seal the road win.
West Florida will look to bounce back against Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tenn. on February 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST.
