PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a convincing 51-33 victory over Mississippi College at the UWF Field House on Thursday night.
West Florida (15-8, 11-6 Gulf South) started strong, taking a 15-6 lead in the first quarter and maintaining control throughout. Despite a slow third quarter where the Argos managed only five points, they erupted for 21 points in the final quarter to seal the win.
The Argonauts showcased their defensive prowess, holding Mississippi College (13-11, 9-9 Gulf South) to just 14-of-65 (21.5%) shooting from the field and 1-of-12 (8.3%) from three-point range. UWF also controlled the glass, outrebounding Mississippi College 51-35, including 40 defensive boards.
Bella Green led UWF with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, along with two blocks. Haidyn Pitsch added 14 points, hitting 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and recording three steals. The Argos' bench contributed 16 points, playing a key role in the decisive fourth quarter.
West Florida's defense forced 11 turnovers, leading to easy transition baskets. Green and Pitsch combined for 10 fourth-quarter points, and the team knocked down three three-pointers to put the game away.
Tiara Abron led the Choctaws with 14 points and Alexis Rowe added 6 points and 7 rebounds.
West Florida will return to action on Saturday against Delta State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
