PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida pulled off a strong fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Delta State 69-56 in Gulf South Conference action at the UWF Field House on Saturday afternoon. The Argonauts trailed heading into the final period but outscored the Lady Statesmen 24-10 in the last 10 minutes to secure the victory.
Bella Green led the way for UWF with 18 points and 13 rebounds, providing a key presence on both ends of the court. Green earns double-doubles in both games for the Argos this week. Izarria Alexander added 11 points and four steals, while Delaney Trushel contributed 12 points, including a crucial three-pointer during the final stretch.
Delta State started strong, taking a 17-16 lead after the first quarter, and carried a 27-26 advantage into halftime. They extended their lead to six by the end of the third quarter, outscoring UWF 19-14. However, the Argonauts flipped the script in the fourth, clamping down defensively and capitalizing on turnovers. UWF forced 19 turnovers in total, turning them into 19 points. Their bench also made a major impact, outscoring Delta State's reserves 23-11. Olivia Allen led Delta State with 20 points.
UWF improves to 16-8 overall and 12-6 in conference play, and will return to action on February 20 at Union. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
