PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's basketball team had one of its best shooting nights of the season boasting a 63-percent shooting percentage, but the Argos couldn't upset Delta State, falling 89-86.
Shay Davis scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including six 3-pointers. Davis also had four assists and a steal.
Le'Tarion White had his second-highest scoring output of the season with 19 points.
The Argos fought off a 12-point deficit in the second half to make it a one possession game late in regulation. A tipin layup by White with four seconds remaining made it a one-point game. After a quick foul to send Delta State to the free throw line, the Statesmen had a lane violation to turn the ball back over to the Argos. But on the ensuing inbounds pass the ball deflected off a pair of players and possession was given to Delta State.
UWF finished 34-of-54 from the field and 10-of-20 from 3-point range. The Argos were 72-percent from the free throw line but didn't shoot a single free throw in the second half.
West Florida will travel to Tennessee for its next road games. The Argos will play Union on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and then Christian Brothers on Saturday at 3 p.m.
