JACKSON, Tenn. –The University of West Florida men's basketball team only trailed for about two minutes in the game on Thursday night as the Argos went on to defeat Union 69-62.
Shay Davis poured in 23 points to lead UWF offensively. His 3-pointer with 13:10 remaining in the first half gave the Argos the lead for good on their way to the seventh win of the season. Davis drilled 5-of-9 triples on the night.
West Florida grew their lead to 15 points in the second half, but Union found their way back into the game by cutting the lead to three points with 1:25 left in regulation. The Argos responded with a layup by
Le'Tarion White to extend the lead to five. The defense then forced two missed shots while
Elijah Wyche and
Rodney Bryant Jr went 4-for-4 from the free throw line down the stretch to ice the game for the Argos.
White finished with 14 points and Wyche added 10 points.
West Florida (7-18, 6-13 GSC) is still fighting for one of the top eight spots in the conference to earn a GSC tournament appearance. The team currently sits in tenth place and will play at Christian Brothers on Saturday at 3 p.m.
