MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of West Florida put on a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, rolling past Christian Brothers 80-59 at Canale Arena. The Argonauts improved to 17-9 on the season and 13-7 in Gulf South Conference play.
West Florida set the tone early, jumping out to an 18-16 lead after the first quarter. They continued to build momentum in the second, outscoring the Lady Buccaneers 20-13 to take a 38-29 advantage into halftime. Christian Brothers struggled to find an answer for the Argonauts' depth, as West Florida's bench provided a massive spark with 54 total points.
Rylie Stephens led the way for the Argonauts, catching fire from beyond the arc and finishing with a game-high 21 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting. Delaney Trushel added 16 points and five rebounds, while Liv Becker contributed 13 points and seven boards. Haidyn Pitsch had a standout performance, recording a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, along with four assists.
On the defensive end, West Florida played with relentless energy, forcing 17 turnovers and coming away with eight steals. They also controlled the glass, outrebounding Christian Brothers 45-37. The Lady Buccaneers struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting just 31.3% from the field despite Valencia McFall's 15-point effort.
A 25-point fourth quarter sealed the win for the Argos, who never allowed Christian Brothers to make a serious push in the second half.Â
The Argos are back in action at home on Feb. 27 against Montevallo. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
