PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida Argonauts put on a show at the UWF Field House on Thursday evening, overwhelming the Montevallo Falcons 80-53. What started as a closely contested matchup turned into a dominant display in the second half, particularly in the third quarter, where UWF outscored Montevallo 27-8 to take full control of the game.
After heading into halftime with a slim 33-31 lead, the Argos came out firing in the third quarter. Bella Green set the tone early, scoring back-to-back layups to extend the lead. Rylie Stephens then caught fire from beyond the arc, draining two deep three-pointers, while Delaney Trushel added a layup and another triple to push the advantage into double digits. The Argos' relentless defense turned up the pressure, forcing multiple turnovers that led to fast-break opportunities, including a coast-to-coast layup by Izarria Alexander.
Trushel, who finished with 19 points, reached a significant career milestone in the period, surpassing 1,000 career points with a layup. Stephens led all scorers with 22 points, including five three-pointers, while Green chipped in 16 points and six rebounds. The Argonauts' bench played a major role, contributing 40 points as UWF showcased its depth.
By the end of the third quarter, UWF had built a commanding 60-39 lead, effectively sealing the game. The Argonauts continued their dominance in the fourth quarter, finishing strong to claim their 18th win of the season and improve to 14-7 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Argos are back in action on Saturday at UWF Field House against Auburn University at Montgomery. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
