Women’s Tennis Finishes 2-0 Weekend in Memphis

Argos Take Down First Ranked Opponent of the Season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - UWF women's tennis (3-1, 2-0 GSC) finished off an undefeated weekend in Tennessee and took down its first ranked opponent of the season with a 5-2 win over No. 18 Southern Arkansas (0-3) on Sunday. 
 
Sandra Recuenco and Carlota Verdu got the day started off on the right foot at the No. 1 position of the doubles point as they defeated Amelie Gindl and Josie Holderbach 6-2. Guadalupe Martinez and Aline Midori Da Silva sealed the point in short order as they won 6-3 on court three over Roksana Kokcha and Konoka Yoshimura.
 
Recuenco started off the singles competition with a win as well when she beat Holderbach 6-1, 6-1, as did Verdu with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gindl. Alberte Joergensen clinched the result for the Argos with a 6-1, 6-0 win on the last court over Camila Corrales. Martinez put her team up 5-0 with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) against Ifigeneia Kafka on court four, before Maria Fiacan beat Midori Da Silva and Kokcha beat Nathalia Mossambani in three sets apiece to scratch back two matchup points and make the final score more respectable.
 
The Argos stay on the road for their next contest, as they travel to Cleveland, Miss., to take on Delta State on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a third straight match at 10 am CT.
