Argos Win First Two Games at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Seven was the winning number on Friday for the University of West Florida baseball team in a pair of wins over Alabama Huntsville. The Argos won game one, 7-1 and the second game, 7-6.

Game 1
Brantley Willis led the hitting for the Argos with three hits on five at bats and three RBIs. UWF got the scoring started right away in the first inning when Willis singled to drive home Parker Tubb who was walked in the first at bat of the game.

With a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, Willis again drove home runs when he doubled to right center to score two runs and give UWF a 4-0 lead. The Argos then added two more runs in the inning when Gann Nobles single scored Tanner Taylor and Willis.

Dalton Neuschwander got his fifth win of the season after going nearly eight innings on the mound. Neuschwander struck out six and allowed just four hits. Chase Stanhope came in relief giving up not runs and only two hits.

Game 2
In the second game of the day the Argos again jumped out to an early lead thanks to two home runs from Jaydon Fryman. Already with a 1-0 lead, the senior had a two-run shot in the first inning to extend the lead. Fryman homered again in the fifth inning scoring another two runs.

Alabama Huntsville made a late comeback attempt by scoring three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut the game to one run.

Willis came in to close the game in the ninth inning and got the save for UWF. After giving up an RBI single Willis then struck out two UAH batters to close out the game.

UWF is now 15-8 on the season and 11-3 in the Gulf South Conference.

The team was scheduled to play UAH on Saturday at noon, but the game has been moved back to Sunday at 1 p.m. due to weather conditions.
