Pitching Performance Leads to Opening Win Over West Alabama

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Senior pitcher Dalton Neuschwander was dealing on Friday night as the UWF baseball team went on to beat West Alabama 3-1 in the first game of the weekend series.

Neuschwander earned his seventh win of the season going seven innings and not giving up a run to the Tigers. The senior recorded eight strikeouts, which was his second highest total in a game this season. In the third inning Neuschwander struck out three straight batters and put the Argos in position to take the lead in the bottom of the inning when UWF scored its first run. UWA only managed six hits in the game with Neuschwander giving up just four while facing 26 at bats.

Brett Rowell batted in the first run of the game for UWF with a double to left center field. Alex Urias who had singled earlier in the inning came around to score.

The Argos added two additional runs in the eighth inning which again began with Urias getting on base. Urias singled to right and later scored when Ben Maskin hit a double to give UWF a 2-0 lead. A throwing error by the Tigers allowed the Argos to bring home another run to take a 3-0 lead.

UWA was able to get on the board in the ninth following a wild pitch by Chase Stanhope. Stanhope pitched two innings and got the save. He struck out three in his time on the mound.
