Argos Lose Sunday Rubber Match, Drop Series to West Alabama

UWF Bats Held Mostly Silent for Third Straight Game

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Things didn't go as planned for the Argos Sunday, as the West Alabama Tigers (27-15, 16-11) escaped the UWF Softball Complex with a 2-1 win and a 2-1 series win.

UWF Softball (27-13, 18-9) drops to third in the GSC behind AUM and Mississippi College with two more series to play. UWF will host Mississippi College next before finishing off the regular season against Valdosta State, who is currently right below the Argos at fourth in the conference standings.

UWF has now dropped three-straight series to the Tigers dating back to 2023. Their overall record is now 44-21 against the Tigers in program history.

Hannah Harper provided both RBI for the Argos in the series, adding another on an RBI double to score Brett Watson in the fourth inning. Other than Harper's double, UWF's batting lineup was held in check by the UWA bullpen. The Argos' .218 team batting average against the Tigers is the second lowest of any conference series this season (.182 vs AUM).

Haley Guffey picked up her seventh loss of the season despite pitching well for seven innings. The junior let up the two earned runs for UWA but helped the Argos strand eight runners in total and added four K's to her weekend. In total, Guffey ends the weekend with a .91 ERA and 13 K's on 15 innings of work.

UWF 1, UWA 2

Both teams stranded a runner in the first but West Alabama took the lead in the second after a walk, sac bunt, and RBI double. The Tigers went down in order in the next couple innings, and the Argos recorded a couple singles that led nowhere.

Harper tied the game up in the fourth after Nevaeh Hayes singled and was replaced by Brett Watson to pinch run. Harper knocked her extra base hit to center field, scoring Watson. A couple flyouts and a fielder's choice ended the inning tied 1-1.

West Alabama responded in the next inning, getting two on base with a couple walks and an RBI single up the middle. Guffey earned the third out on a swinging strikeout, minimizing the damage and leaving two on for UWA. The last three innings, the Argos went down in order and a strikeout on the final at-bat clinched a 1-2 loss at the hands of the Tigers.
