Argos Hold Off Badgers in Final Innings to Take the Victory

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team came out victorious in a close 5-4 final Tuesday night at Jim Spooner Field. This is UWF's first win over the Badgers this season.
 
The Argos head into their final home series with a 27-15 overall record.
 
UWF grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the second frame. Tanner Taylor opened the inning with a walk. A pair of back-to-back hits by Dom Presto and Zack Stokes sent Taylor home for the first run of the game. Redshirt freshman Alex Urias grabbed an RBI single on a bunt to send Presto on a foot race home. Brett Rowell capped the scoring with an RBI groundout.
 
Spring Hill got on the board in the fifth inning with a homerun down centerfield but the Argos brought the score back to a three-run difference in their offensive appearance. In the bottom fifth, Willis led of the inning with a walk. After advancing to second on a groundout, Willis was brought home on an RBI outfield single by Ben Maskin.
 
The Badgers scored in their second consecutive frame in the sixth inning, closing the Argos gap to 4-3.
 
Responding in the bottom sixth, Presto hit his second homerun of the season to extend back to a to two-run lead at 5-3.
 
Brantley Willis, who started as designated hitter, stepped up to the mound to relieve. Three wild pitches and a sacrifice fly allowed Spring Hill to run home. Willis finished the inning with a pop up and a strikeout to grab a close 5-4 victory.
 
The Argos prepare for their final home series over Mississippi College. The GSC contests will begin Friday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m. and will follow with a Saturday doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
