BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly tennis awards today for performances in matches from March 24-30. Junior Guadalupe Martinez won her first GSC Player of the Week award this season and the third of her UWF career as she went 4-1 overall to help lead the newly-minted No. 7 Argos to a 2-1 week. 
 
The junior from Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, now ranked No. 61 in the ITA DII Singles Rankings went undefeated against DII competition, with her only loss coming in singles against DI opponent Jacksonville State. The next day against Arkansas Tech, she and doubles partner Aline Midori Da Silva defeated Maria Krite and Elis Gergel 6-3 on court two, and then on court four of singles, she came up with a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Krite. On Saturday in a crucial match against No. 15 Mississippi College, she and Midori Da Silva got the day started at No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 win over Katharina Weber and Ricio Martinez before she clinched the narrow win with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Weber in singles.
 
The Argos have another big GSC contest this afternoon as they take on No. 34 Auburn Montgomery on the road at 1 pm.
