PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 2025 regular season at the Fork has drawn to a close, and the Argos capped it off with two wins over a familiar local challenger in Spring Hill College.
UWF Softball (31-14, 20-10) took both games in a twin bill over the Badgers Wednesday, winning game one 5-2 and game two 4-1, pushing their win streak to eight-straight over the Badgers and 32-6 all-time.
Senior
Gianna Guerriero had a monster day on the diamond, going 6-6 at the plate with three runs, an RBI, and five stolen bases. She catapults herself forward in several conference statistics, as she is now once again the leader in stolen bases in the GSC (35), and second in batting average (.429), runs (46), hits (70) and still leads in triples.
Freshman
Kyndal Cornelius also came up big for the Argos today, going 4-6 with two runs and an RBI in the wins. Freshman
Nevaeh Hayes also delivered a couple clutch hits including two RBI singles.
Haley Guffey (20-7) and
Hannah Harper (11-5) each picked up a win today, with Guffey finishing with a 2.00 ERA and four K's and Harper allowing just one earned run in her start with five K's. Harper's season ERA improves to 3.21 and Guffey's remains at 2.13.
Game 1: UWF 5, SHC 2
Guerriero bunted her first of six hits for the lead off runner and was brought in on an error. Harper singled later in the inning to score
Erin Moon. Entering the second up 2-0,
Bella Holliday hit a sac-fly RBI to score Baughan unearned.
UWF held a 3-0 score until the sixth inning, stranding two runners and having a couple more out on a double play in the fifth. Spring Hill managed a couple hits, but finally got on the board in the sixth with three hits including an RBI double and RBI groundout.
The Argos managed to stop the damage there but it was only a one run game entering the bottom of the inning. The Argos regrouped and added two more insurance runs late to put it away, starting with a Cornelius RBI single scoring
Emma Brice and Guerriero's next RBI single. UWF held on in the seventh for the 5-2 win in game one.
Game 2: UWF 4, SHC 1
Guerriero recorded another lead-off single and Moon hit a groundout score her shortly after. Both teams went down quickly in the second before UWf added a couple more in the third. A couple singles and and an error allowed Guerriero, Discenza and Cornelius on, and a wild pitch scored Cornelius. Hayes singled to right field to drive in Discenza and Cornelius.
Spring Hill responded with a solo home run in the forth, but it was the only score of game two for the Badgers. UWF managed multiple runners in scoring position in the final few innings, but couldn't add anymore. The three run lead proved to be enough and they closed out the seventh inning on just one SHC single for the 4-1 win.
