Argos Get Past Cougars in Tuesday Night Matchup

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team pushed through a tough matchup over non-conference opponent, Columbus State, Tuesday night at Jim Spooner Field.

The Argos scored seven consecutive runs through the opening five innings to take a quick lead.

The Cougars responded with a pair of two-run-innings in the sixth and seventh frame to close the gap.
The Argos held a three-run lead heading into the ninth inning. With two runners left on base, freshman Liam Furey headed to the mound. On pitch one, a double play ended the game to give UWF the win. Furey was credited the save.

Brett Rowell grabbed the first hit of the game with a double and Brantley Willis followed with a single to advance Rowell to third. Cade Easterbrook recorded an RBI single to bring Rowell home. Third basemen Ben Maskin followed with an RBI single to cap the scoring.

Easterbrook slammed a two-run homer in the third inning to increase the lead to 4-0.

Easterbrook opened the fifth inning with a walk. Up next, Maskin hit an outfield single as Easterbrook attempted to steal second. The hit allowed extra time for Easterbrook to make his way to third and be in scoring position. Alex Urias hit a solid RBI outfield single to bring the score to 6-0. A wild pitch brough Urias to second to advance another runner in scoring position. In Ethan Babcock's at bat, Urias stole third and advanced home on a catcher's error to cap the Argos scoring.

Caiden Peeples threw a solid 5.2 innings and grabbed his first win on the mound. Peeples allowed two runs on six hits and threw three strikeouts.

The Argos finished the two-game series with the Cougars tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Jim Spooner Field.
