Gentil Notches Hat Trick in Dominating Win Over Rollins

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Sophomore Andrey Gentil led the Argos on Friday night as the UWF men's soccer team dominated Rollins on the road, 5-1. It was the first win of the season for West Florida who are now 1-1-1.

Gentil scored his first goal of the game late in the first half at the 43-minute mark to give the Argos a 2-1 lead at the time. The goal was assisted by Rafael Esteves and Callum Edwards. That was all UWF would need to win the game, but the offense kept attacking throughout the second half to build a sizable lead over Rollins.

Gentil began the second half where he left off in the first with a goal in the 51st minute off the assist from Leonardo Souza. The goal gave the Argos a demanding 3-1 lead. Gentil also added the final score of the contest in the 67th minute, finishing a ball from Esteves who provided his third assist of the game.

Manu Bernabeu scored twice for UWF and was the one to open the scoring for the Argos. Bernabeu scored in the 5th minute of play and then again in the 52nd minute. He now has three goals this season for West Florida.

"The early goal was important for us," said head coach Bill Elliott. "It gave us confidence that we could win on the road."

Rollins was able to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the first half, but it was all UWF from there on out as they rolled to the 5-1 victory.

The Argos had 17 total shots with seven on target, outshooting Rollins by 11 shots.

UWF will continue their long season opening road trips with a matchup on Sunday against Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
