TAMPA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team battled No. 1-ranked Tampa in a four-set thriller on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 (23-25, 16-25, 25-20, 26-28) at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. The Argonauts (7-3) pushed the unbeaten Spartans (8-0) to the brink in sets three and four, showcasing grit and high-level execution against one of the nation's top programs.
Aniston Cochran led the West Florida offense, hammering 16 kills on a .469 hitting percentage, while
Magdalena Vongkasemsiri and
Reece Wright each added 12 and 10 kills respectively. Defensively, Madalyn Mire posted a team-high 23 digs, and freshman
Ana Colon chipped in three service aces.
Gabi Moulton directed the attack with a triple-double performance, dishing out 46 assists alongside 20 digs, while also hitting an impressive .545 with 12 kills of her own. With the milestone, Moulton delivered the second triple-double of her career and etched just the second in program history.
After dropping the first two frames, the Argonauts responded with a dominant third-set win and carried momentum into the fourth. UWF pushed the Spartans deep into extra points before the Spartans closed out the match 28-26. Overall, the Argos outdug Tampa 81-71 and showed resilience throughout, turning in one of their strongest performances of the season despite the setback.
